Ester's Taco House was originally located in Bellflower. When Ester's daughter Linda took over, she moved the restaurant closer to her home in Placentia.
I have to be honest, in the past I would give this place three Stars for service and five stars for food. I've been coming here for years, And I haven't been back in a while but I was just here tonight for taco Tuesday and even though it was extremely busy, It was still worth the wait. Our waitress Kaitlyn and the team she was working with, they were on top of it. for the first time I didn't have to ask for refills on my salsa or chips and our drinks. As always I mostly only come here for the shredded chicken tacos and the chips and salsa. I have had one of the best experiences tonight and It was worth the wait and I feel so full. Lol. Great job tonight and I hope to be back soon. !
Great food, will definitely be back!
It's only beer and wine and their food was not the greatest. I did not like this place very much at all.
Our new find, although it's been around since 1957. We used to go to the one on La Palma by the ice skating rink, then it became Papas and now something else. The food is not good there. By chance I rediscovered Esther's when searching nearby places. It's much closer to us, a hidden gem. Delicious food, especially love their hard shell tacos. Great for the whole family. There's also a bar area with Big TV. The place is always packed (it's small) which is a good sign, but to dine in there's a line. We get our food to go. It is not fancy, but it's clean and the servers are friendly, attentive even though they're very busy. Must try!
Went for lunch with the guys from work. This place is close and inexpensive! The food here is really good and the so are the waitresses. Very polite and friendly
Food is not fresh. Rice and beans seemed old and reheated. Carne Asada in burrito was salty and tough. Their burrito come with lettuce and salsa in the burrito. Never have I seen lettuce in a burrito. 1 star for the home made chips. Still were a bit stale.
Our food came out so quick and we enjoyed the meal too!
Best chicken tacos and cold beer. I was finding myself there up to 3x's a week for ten years. Now that I am out of the area, I try for a couple times a year
Killer tacos Tues only $2.50 each. If you want them fried crunchy request extra cooked too many times they come out undercooked and they are not crunchy, they are chewy. Nevertheless, packed to the brim with fresh shredded chicken, tons of cheese, lettuce and tomato. I'm 6'4"-300#, I can barely eat 3 tacos, & maybe a few handfuls of chips too. Great salsa. All food is great here.
I'll take it cause choices are limited. Outdoor seating, about 9 tables total to occupy, shady area but... Waiters & waitresses are slow, far, few (1) none in between.Tacos are terrible, and lastly... Alcohol, no happy hour prices.
Always a good time on Taco Tuesdays and if you want or need it chances are they'll make it for you, no joke!!
We have been going to Esther's for about 4 years. It's not our favorite Mexican food restaurant but it's not bad by any means. They definitely have their own unique style of food. The tortilla chips are thicker than most places and they always serve two types of salsa with them. The service is good and the staff is friendly. The prices are reasonable.
We've been a couple of times, the first was pretty amazing, came for Happy Hour and had our fill of Tacos and made the mistake of ordering Nachos... Should've just had the tacos, it was way too much food. Came a second time a couple of weeks later, not Happy Hour, ordered a Chicken Fajita Burrito. I was extremely disappointed, as it is like the most expensive burrito on the menu, and EVERYWHERE I have ever been, a Fajita Burrito has the Fajita grilled peppers and onions in the burrito. Not Esther's, it is a regular burrito with beans and stuff, but the chicken has a sprinkle of Fajita seasoning. When I complained the manager was like, "Um yeah, everyone expects that. Huh?" and looking at their online menu today it is gone, and there is a "build your own" option for the same price, which I guess allows one to specify exactly what they want in their burrito.
Authentic Mexican food, lots of sports on TV's throughout, personable waitresses and waiters.
Just got done from an 8 mile hike and needed to eat some good food and drink an ice cold beer. This is the best place we could have chosen! The vibe is good and The waitress was amazing.
Foods awesome, service is great. Ask to be seated in Ana's section.
I have to rate 1 star because of the horrible first impression that I received. Apparently, this establishment thinks it's professional to take the phone off of the hook during the final hours of Taco Tuesday. Magically, at closing time, the phone is placed back on the hook, so that they are now able to answer the phone to let customer's know that they are closed. I did report this to the manager Lisa but a stunt like this makes me not even want to give this place a chance, which is sad because the reviews are good and the food looks even better. :(
I ordered a Green all meat wet burrito and they brought it back with beans & rice in it so they gladly took it back & made me a new burrito without any complaints! The staff members are off the hook nice!!
At any time of the day you will get the best food and service... And sports TV!!!!
My daughter introduced me to this great tasting Mexican food restaurant and I enjoyed my birthday dinner. Great tasting salsa with chips, couldn't stop eating them! Shredded Beef tacos were so delicious and rice was superb. My son enjoyed his cheeseburger & fries, my next meal! Drinks are mega large too. Atmosphere is really enjoyable and relaxing. I recommend this place if you want authentic and tasty, but filling Mexican food.
Always fresh and great service. Locals come here for the repeat business because they enjoy the food so much. Crispy beef tacos are excellent here and ice cold beer always ready!
The food was not good at all. I do have to say the staff is very nice and welcoming!
Great food and reasonable prices. Love Taco Tuesday and Thursday.
This place is like a second home for us. Awesome staff, comfortable atmosphere and delicious food. They make you feel right at home, like hanging out with friends. They are so good and friendly and patient with my 4 year old. When we’re going out to eat this is always his first choice! Highly recommend!
Excellent food and service! We wish it was closer to home, but will drive out of our way just to eat there.
This place is decent. Got the fish tacos (battered). They were ok. Somewhat bland. No lime or salsa was offered for the tacos
Perfect local taco joint. Always busy. Staff is very friendly. Like any busy good small place, frequently there is a wait but with it!
Excellent food and a full bar I never knew was there.
I had a carnitas taco plate for 9 bucks they were great. If you get a chance get the hot and mild salsa and mix them together to get the bomb salsa
Love the chicken flautas!
This is my favorite place to grab a beer and some amazing food! You can sit at the bar which had great views of games, in the booth or at the counter. This is the only restaurant I’ve actually found “ground beef tacos” it’s a childhood favorite! They have all varieties of meats, so you will never get board!
I frequent Esther's 1-3 times per month and usually have a good time. I've only ever had 1 issue with my order not being submitted properly and taking a very long time to receive out of the dozens of times I've been here. Think of this place as a Mexican-American diner. You can get tacos, rice bowls, fajitas, and all manner of traditional diner food like burgers and beer. If you enjoy the home like diner feel its great. The only downsides are the downsides of any family feel diner where sometimes the staff is chatty with customers and slower but I love that so for me it is a positive.
Their chips and salsa are out of this world. I LOVE their Al-pastor lettuce cup tacos!
I just liked their dishes. I always get excellent customer service here. The place is clean and the cashiers are always super friendly. Keep up the good work.
This is our go to taco Tuesday. You won't go wrong
Great food. Have been going to Esther's since it was in Downey. It's what I think about when I think about good Mexican food.
Their salsa wasn't the best it was just ok. Not the worse tacos I've had but not the best
Did not bring much of an appetite with me when I had come here for the first time. The flautas were fluffy and crispy; flavored very well. Happy Hour is a must here if you’re nearby.
Great place... Great food... Ice cold beer... Waitresses are very pretty and super friendly... My burrito was huge, I could only eat half... Can't wait to reheat the other half. Lol. Please hit like - 👍
Love this place, very authentic Mexican food here. I had a chili relleno, and crispy chicken taco. Their chips and salsa are my favorites in the area. Had an ice cold iced tea with lots of ice. The service here is impeccable. They treat me like family best part is they're a mile from my home. I like to stop on my way home when it's my turn to cook.
I ordered a carnitas burrito, which turned out to be one of the worst I've ever eaten. The meat was okay, but the killer was the neverending salsa juice pouring out of the bottom. The amount was truly astonishing, soaking through the thick cardboard tray it came in. No amount of napkins saved me from drowning in juice, so eventually I ate it over the ground to let it drip somewhere it wouldn't cause a mess.
Never a bad meal or bad service. Esther's is our go to for Mexican food!
Great service and food is good. Nice sports bar vibes.
My absolute favorite casual restaurant in Orange County! I've been to Esther's dozens of times and have never seen someone leave here disappointed. The tacos are great (as well as everything else on the menu) and the large beers are served ice cold from the friendliest staff around. The taco Tuesday crowd of regulars are friendly too. I used to go almost every week when I lived nearby but now that I live in Arizona, it has become my regular place every time I visit Orange County. You can't go wrong with Esther's!
Great food, clean and Friendly atmosphere and staff, reasonable prices, ample parking.
Love this place. The food is amazing and the staff is warm, friendly, and always welcoming. Our family favorite!
When they have dine-in, this place is exceptional!!!
Great Mexican food at a reasonable price!
My chicken enchilada was great but the service was slow which is unusual for Esther's usually have great service
Been coming here for years, stopped by to say what's up to my dude Jorge. Do your yourself a solid and get the fajita chicken cheese crisp, or a fajita chicken soft taco with cheese onions and cilantro only. Simple and satisfying.
